Gorno Ezerovo Wastewater Treatment Plant

In 2013, the Municipality of Burgas implemented a project titled: “Integrated Project for Drinking Water and Wastewater Management in the Gorno Ezerovo Neighborhood, Burgas,” with the following subproject: “Gorno Ezerovo Wastewater Treatment Plant, Burgas.” The project is being implemented with financial support from the “Environment 2007–2013” Operational Program, co-financed by the European Union through the Cohesion Fund. The total project budget amounts to 11,227,085 BGN, of which 10,621,204 BGN is grant funding and 605,881 BGN is self-financing. The plant was commissioned in 2016.
The “Gorno Ezerovo” WWTP treats wastewater from the Gorno Ezerovo neighborhood. The plant’s design capacity is 3,160 PE and a hydraulic load of 684 m³/d, or an annual water volume of 249,660 m³/y.

The main treatment process takes place in the following facilities:
• primary treatment—coarse mechanical screen, sand trap, and grease trap;
• biological treatment with denitrification, a clarifier;
• sludge thickener, a macerator for grinding coarse particles, and a polymer dosing station;
• two-speed decanter for dewatering and a screw conveyor for dewatered sludge. The treated wastewater is discharged from the WWTP into a stream within the Burgas Lake watershed.
