Obzor-Byala Wastewater Treatment Plant – Obzor Urban Area

The “Obzor–Byala” Wastewater Treatment Plant was commissioned in 2004. In 2022, “VIK” EAD, Burgas, is implementing a project titled: “Reconstruction of the Obzor WWTP,” part of the “Integrated Water Project for the Burgas Region.” The project is funded by the “Environment 2014–2020” Operational Program with co-financing from the European Cohesion Fund and is valued at 935,882 BGN.
The wastewater treatment plant has been handed over for management, maintenance, and operation to “Water Supply and Sewerage” EAD, Burgas.
The “Obzor–Byala” WWTP serves the towns of Obzor and Byala and has a design capacity of 40,000 PE. The permitted hydraulic load is 10,000 m³/d, or an annual water volume of 1,750,000 m³/y.

The main treatment process is carried out in the following facilities:
• primary treatment—fine screens, sand trap, and grease trap;
• biological treatment—bioreactors with pneumatic aeration (2 units), denitrification tanks (2 units), secondary horizontal clarifiers (2 units), a contact tank, and a blower station;
• chemical treatment plant;
• sludge buffer tanks—2 units, sludge pump stations;
• Alfa Laval decanter centrifuge.

The treated wastewater is discharged into the Dvoynitsa River.
