Manolich Wastewater Treatment Plant
In 2007, the Municipality of Sungurlare implemented a project titled: “Engineering of Internal and External Sewer Networks and Construction of the Manolich Wastewater Treatment Plant, Municipality of Sungurlare.” The project was carried out with grant funding. The total budget amounted to 6,000,000 BGN. The plant was put into operation in 2010. The treatment plant has been transferred by the municipality to “Water Supply and Sewerage” EAD, Burgas, for management, maintenance, and operation.
The “Manolich” WWTP treats wastewater from the village of Manolich. The plant’s design capacity is 1,800 PE and a hydraulic load of 259 m³/d, or an annual water volume of 94,608 m³/y.
The main treatment process takes place in the following facilities:
• fine screen, primary clarifier, bioreactor operating in nitrification and denitrification mode, secondary clarifier, disinfection;
• sludge thickener—a three-chamber unit designed to store mixed sludge for up to one month, with the decanted water returned to the plant’s inlet.
The treated wastewater from the WWTP is discharged into a dry ravine that flows into the tail end of the Kamchia Reservoir.
